DC Housing Search - Day Two

Looked at two places worth photographing yesterday; The Savoy (pictures) and a condo in Alexandria (pictures).

The Savoy has great location. It’s about two blocks north of the Foggy Bottom metro stop, which would make it about a 10 minute walk to the law school. The building is nice; rooftop pool, decent sized apartments, nice management, and plenty of student residents. The apartment itself wasn’t that impressive, but could be nice. See the pictures yourself and see if you think the place is worth $1100 a month.

The condo in alexandria is privately owned by a charming African couple, and although it doesn’t look like much from the outside, inside it’s really beautiful. Of course, much of that owes to the decorating talent of the residents, a talent I don’t posses. But the place if priced right: $1400 (including utils) for a two bedroom. Although one of the bedrooms is smaller than the other, it still seems rentable. Another advantage is that the place is almost literally right next door to the Huntington metro stop, about a 25 minute ride from GWU. I need to post on the GWU forum and see if I can get any takes for the smaller bedroom. I really like the place. Of course, there is another downside; it’s not terribly close to anything resembeling action. Even getting groceries would require a car. But the price is so low. See the pictures and comment on them.

Then, this morning, after crashing at Laura’s place, I met my brother, his wife, and their son as they passed through DC on their way to visit my parents in NY. It was really good to see them.

Well, I have to drop Laura off at work and then head to campus to find the financial aid office, so I gotta jet.
